Eco-Treasures

The Belmar Environmental Commission offers a popular series of free nature walks/talks at Silver Lake, Shell Beach and Shark River. Don’t miss Belmar’s “Treasure Trail,” which highlights local environmental and historical wonders like the very special Shell Beach at 1st Avenue, the only natural beach between Sandy Hook and Island Beach State Park, and the Mast of the Malta, the fascinating remains of a famous 1865 shipwreck, at 8th and Ocean Avenues.

Another eco-adventure is a self-guided 11-mile walk-bike-drive around Shark River. The tour takes you past graceful egrets, the first lunar radio signal, award-winning architecture and other ecological and historical highlights.

Belmar has a variety of playgrounds and parks, including the popular Maclearie Park on Shark River where residents and visitors alike enjoy crabbing, fishing, kayaking, picnicking, tennis and more.
